Professor Barbara Mulder

Dr. Barbara Mulder, Professor of Cardiology in the Amsterdam University Medical Center, has demonstrated outstanding, sustained global leadership and innovation through life-long dedication and contributions to the care of adults with congenital heart disease. She is recognized as an exceptional leader in adult congenital heart disease (ACHD)  leadership, research, and education. She was the President of ISACHD from 2010 to 2012 and President of the Netherlands Society of Cardiology from 2015 to 2017. As a visionary, in 2002 she launched CONgenital CORvitia (CONCOR), the Netherlands national registry and DNA bank for congenital heart disease; over 17,000 patients from over 100 hospitals have been included. The CONCOR registry is globally well recognized as one of the most important patient registries in the world providing a wealth of information with an enormous impact on diagnosis and treatment, but also on the epidemiological knowledge of ACHD patients. She has made the Netherlands a frontrunner of collaborative research, published over 400 peer-reviewed manuscripts, and has mentored over 35 PhD students, whom greatly benefited from her expertise and energy. Dr. Mulder is loved by her patients, appreciated by her colleagues, and admired by her scientific colleagues and friends all over the world.

The Award was presented by Dr. Adrienne Kovacs at ISACHD's annual business meeting held virtually on July 7, 2021.

He has co-authored more than 500 articles with more than 24,000 citations. Dr. Williams was a co-founder of the Canadian Adult Congenital Heart Network in 1992 and one of the key forces behind the Canadian Cardiovascular Society (CCS) Consensus Conference on the Management of ACHD, published in 1998, the first management guidelines for ACHD produced anywhere in the world.
