Dr. Carole Warnes
Dr. Carole Warnes has been an enormous force that has driven forward ACHD across the globe, in a powerful, yet caring, and elegant way. Her career has been illustrious and studded with achievements that have been inspirational to our community. Amongst these, most notably, has been her role in the 2001 and 2008 ACC/AHA guidelines, her award-winning role in education being an inspiration for numerous fellows at the Mayo Clinic and for physicians in a multitude of international ACHD meetings, and her distinguished role at the Mayo Clinic. After moving from the United Kingdom, Dr. Warnes established one of the foremost ACHD programs in the world at the Mayo Clinic Rochester in 1987, and inspired the genesis of many others. From 1996 to 1998, she was President of ISACHD. Her striving for excellence has permeated into the practices of many ACHD cardiologists. In spite of all these Herculean achievements, she remains an endearing human being who is compassionate, thoughtful, and nurturing in ways that will benefit many generations of cardiologists. The Award was presented to Dr. Carole Warnes by Dr. Gruschen Veldtman at the EuroGUCH Meeting in Zagreb (Croatia) on April 5, 2019. |
